State of Student Welfare in Pwani Region, 2026
A baseline look at enrolment, dropout risk and welfare needs across the communities we serve.
Every year, our programme team reviews enrolment, attendance and welfare indicators across the schools and communities we partner with in Pwani Region. This report brings that picture together in one place, as a baseline for the coming academic year.
The report looks at three linked questions: how many eligible students are enrolled and attending consistently, what the most common risk factors are when a student's attendance starts to slip, and which household or school-level interventions have the clearest effect on keeping a student in class through to the end of the year.
Financial pressure at the household level remains the most frequently cited factor behind irregular attendance, followed by distance to school and, for older students, competing demands on their time such as informal work or caregiving responsibilities at home.
The findings in this report directly shape how we prioritise scholarship placements, where we focus new mentor recruitment, and which partner schools receive additional learning-materials support in the coming terms.
We publish this data openly because we believe donors, partner schools and fellow organisations working in the region benefit from a shared, honest picture of where the gaps are — not just our own success stories.
